Hold Out 02:20
Oh my god Why do I think I wanna hold out? Hold out One in my head One in the eye One in my heart I could have been saying all the right things right now But that’s me Whenever I get down I freak out

Itching 04:04
Wait for the sun to Peek its head out I’ve been gloomy Are you, too? Can’t seem to wake up It’s too cold now Need the blankets All day through A long week is coming To an end but There is no end In sight I check on the weather On the hour But the forecast Isn’t bright Can you help me with this Disposition? Change hasn’t come And I’m itching Set up a time to Get your hair done Find a new look Look okay Hand wash the laundry Fuck the coin op It’s too costly Anyway Empty the dish rack Put the dishrags Neatly in a little tray In kitchen drawers that you should sift through it’s a catch-all A foray Can you help me with this Disposition? Change hasn’t come And I’m itching Yeah I’m itching

Sneaking Out 02:34
Keep it in context It’s not a contest But I can’t quite keep it in frame I know I tend to Just get excited But I can’t hold it all in my hand Trying to be what Everyone wanted What if I lose sight of what I am? Trying to be What somebody thought up And I can’t quite understand What I am doing here, oh Understand, what I am doing here, oh What if I tell you All of my secret wishes and all of my dreams? Would believe them, Am I not quite what I seem? What I seem Trying to keep it All under wraps but I am afraid I’m letting it out Lately I’ve been so out of my mind I know you see it sneaking out

Time Lapse 04:17
It's hard to come to terms with All this passing of the time Did you know it would get faster? Did you know it'd feel like flying? They always say it will get faster I didn't know it'd feel like flying I know, I know, I know, I know, I meant it When I, when I, when I, when I said it Give me, give me, give me, give me just a minute I need, I need, I need, I need a minute Fixed position on a runway A moving sidewalk to the end Do you feel as though you're moving? Or just a slipping piece of sand? They always say that you are moving, But I'm just slipping through time's hands I know, I know, I know, I know, I meant it When I, when I, when I, when I said it Give me, give me, give me, give me just a minute I need, I need, I need, I need a minute I know, I know, I know, I know, I meant it When I, when I, when I, when I said it Give me, give me, give me, give me just a minute I need, I need, I need, I need a minute Spent so many moments trying to describe it You could spend a lifetime just trying to defy it Just a stranger in a passing train car Is there a bigger lesson for what we are? I know, I know, I know, I know, I meant it When I, when I, when I, when I said it Give me, give me, give me, give me just a minute I need, I need, I need, I need a minute I know, I know, I know, I know, I meant it When I, when I, when I, when I said it Give me, give me, give me, give me just a minute

On The Mend 04:25
I think, I think I’m the mend Cause I’ve been adopting a bend Oh, in a place that I used to break Oh, in a place that I used to break Let me try again I think, I think I’m the mend Cause I’ve been adopting a bend Oh, in a place that I used to break Oh, in a place that I used to break I see your back You turn the right I catch your glance A welcome sight I see you from Across the room You’re coming towards me Why don’t we leave soon Is never soon enough

about

Nest Inertia is the debut EP from Lavenderlux; a musical collaboration that took shape remotely between Amelia Wilcox (Vermont) and Joseph Human (Washington). The EP’s name was inspired by a quote from Rainer Maria Rilke’s “Letters to a Young Poet” and explores the idea of getting trapped within the safe or familiar places and notions we create for ourselves, often at the cost of personal growth. Each song grapples with a different part of the process of finding the strength to move outside these periods of stagnation. As a release, Nest Inertia marks a step forward in life and music.

"It is not inertia alone that is responsible for human relationships repeating themselves from case to case, indescribably monotonous and unrenewed: it is shyness before any sort of new, unforeseeable experience with which one does not think oneself able to cope. But only someone who is ready for everything, who excludes nothing, not even the most enigmatical will live the relation to another as something alive.”

―Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters to a Young Poet
